Bloody Grace!
solo performance - 2027
 
Solo project that combines poetic writing with choreography, and takes the biblical scene of the Annunciation as a starting point: archangel Gabriel brings a lily to Mary and announces her miraculous, immaculate conception. 

As the story of a young virgin who becomes impregnated by an almighty god, this scene raises questions about patriarchal control over bodies and their sexuality. Yet it also contains elements that open to another reading: a single woman discovering a pregnancy, a messenger with ambiguous gender and intentions, and a being in the process of becoming incarnated.
 
This project asks: How can we transform this cornerstone of political and religious conservatism into a possible anchor point that supports us in critical moments? How can we recalibrate our imaginary around femininities and procreation?
 
Moving sculptures and mythopoetic prose inspired by iconography and myths from both Christian and non-Christian traditions, and the experience of a terminated pregnancy, bring this archetypical story as close as possible to everyday, embodied reality, without completely demystifying it.
